New Shoes

I slept a lot when I was younger. It was almost as if I was preserving myself for a long life of hard work ahead of me. I have no cap when it comes to how many hours I can sleep but I also remember being young and being excited to see the sunrise. Nowadays I’m in bed before 10 pm and I can't sleep past 7 am so I get to wake up and see the sunrise every day which I'm very grateful for. I feel in sync with nature and thus with the universe. However this morning there wouldn't be a sunrise to catch it was cloudy once again outside. It has been raining way more than usual in the past few days. I'm craving a croissant but I can tell it's about to start pouring so I order my breakfast on DoorDash instead. While I wait for my food to arrive I indulge in two of my favorite past times, listening to music and shoe shopping. I’ve been listening to a lot of Aaliyah and Summer Walker. I decide to let Last Day of Summer play all the way through as I open the Goat app excited to see what new arrivals they have for me. Nike and I go way back. I’ve always been fond of Nike. Growing up my single mother made just enough to get by so I didn’t have a lavish wardrobe, just the essentials. I remember in Jr. High wanting Air Force Ones because I thought they were so fresh. My mom gave me a choice.. either I could have this one pair of expensive shoes or I could get two pairs of K-Swiss. preferably one black pair and one white pair. Although this was a tough decision I went with what I thought was the more fashionable choice. At twelve I was too old to put myself in possible jeopardy of getting clowned or bullied so I made the most fashionable choice. Each year I tried to keep my all-white low top Air Force Ones clean for half a school year until Christmas when I could get a new pair to last me until the end of the second half of the school year. I think because of this I never found value in obsessing over material things. I didn’t own my first pair of Jordan 1's until I was 30 which may or may not be odd but I am proud to finally be able to afford them. Today I’m on the hunt for a pair of new Air Max’s though. A nice mustard yellow pair would be dope. I keep in mind fall is quickly approaching so now is the time to adjust the color pallet from bright color blocks to more moody tones like dark blues and greens. Yes, I put this much thought into it. Nike also makes a tactical boot that Shia Lebouf no doubt made famous. I’ve had my eye on it for about a year now, maybe that will be the next pair I add to my collection... I scroll and scroll but nothing stands out to me. My phone dings it’s says that my food is approaching. I jump out of bed and grab my Mifland short set to throw on, a pair of socks, and my Nike slides to meet the driver in the lobby. I’m too impatient and too hungry to see if they will make it to my door. I walk towards the front door when I hear someone knock...
